The saz is a long-necked lute.
The word saz, in Persian, designates a musical instrument (in general), or a lute. But it also designates this long-necked lute called saz or bağlama in Turkish, tambur in Kurdish, or otherwise elsewhere. It is found in a similar form in a wide geographical area, from the Balkans and Greece to the Caucasus and Crimea, as well as in Iran and Iraq.
