Svetlana Spajić est une chanteuse d’origine serbe reconnue mondialement pour ses recherches, ses performances et son travail de transmission concernant les chants traditionnels serbes. Son champ d’expertise est l’étude du chant microtonal a cappella et la singularité de ses techniques vocales et de ses fonctions. Ses recherches l’ont amenée à traverser les Balkans pendant plus de 30 ans, étudiant dans les villages auprès des meilleurs chanteurs, parmi les doyens et doyennes.
Elle publie et produit une vingtaine d’albums, dont la plupart visent à préserver la culture immatérielle. La sortie internationale de Žegar Živi (Cloudvalley, Londres, 2008), album de chants traditionnels qu’elle enregistre avec les derniers chanteurs authentiques de la minorité serbe de Dalmatie (Croatie), fut reconnue comme l’un des projets contemporains les plus significatifs pour la préservation de l’héritage musical des territoires de l’ex-Yougoslavie, et s’est vue hautement acclamée sur tout le globe.
Svetlana Spajić met à contribution son savoir et son expérience au bénéfice des travaux de nombreux groupes dans le domaine de l'art du chant traditionnel en Serbie et à l'étranger, dont son propre groupe basé à Belgrade, constitué d’un ensemble de femmes et incluant des chanteurs villageois, qui parfois se produisent aussi en public.
Elle est également la directrice artistique du festival Retnik qui favorise la transmission de l’héritage et des connaissances traditionnelles par l’organisation de rencontres et promeut les interactions entre les générations d’artistes traditionnels. Elle coopère avec Drom pour Kreiz Breizh Akademi depuis 2011.
